Why brakes matter
Your brakes are one of the most critical safety systems on your truck. A small issue today can become a major safety problem tomorrow—or worse, put your truck out of service and your delivery schedule on hold.

During roadside inspections, brake violations are some of the most commonly cited defects. But you don't have to wait for an inspection to discover problems. By taking 10 minutes before each trip to conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection, you can identify and address issues yourself.

Your pre-trip brake inspection checklist
Before you hit the road, take a few minutes to:

✔Check all brake components for wear and damage
✔Look and listen for air leaks in the air brake system
✔Inspect brake pads, rotors, and drums for excessive wear
✔Test brake response during a controlled stop
✔Verify all brake lights are working
✔Check hydraulic fluid levels (if applicable)
✔Report and repair any issues immediately

Red flags to watch for
Report these issues right away—do not drive the vehicle:
✔Soft or spongy brake pedal
✔Visible leaks or cracked brake hoses
✔Brake fluid in or around the brake system
✔Unusual brake noise or grinding
✔Brake warning lights on the dashboard
